Meet The Doctor

Cosmetic Dentist Douglas J. Alterman, DMD

Dr. Douglas J. Alterman is a native of Charleston.  He is a graduate of Porter-Gaud school and has a BS degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.  After completing his undergraduate work he received his dental degree from The Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine.  Dr Alterman graduated with honors and is still currently a member of the dental honor society Omicrom Kappa Upsilom (OKU). Upon receiving his DMD degree he began a comprehensive general practice residency in the US Navy at the San Diego, CA Naval Hospital.  Dr Alterman spent an additional 2 years serving as the sole dental officer aboard the USS Ponce LPD-15.  The experience he received while in the military was rewarding both personally and professionally. He enjoys a wonderful family , having been married for 20 years and has two beautiful daughters ages 13 and 15.

Dr Alterman has continued his passion for improvement and has completed many continuing education seminars throughout the United States.  He has attended courses at The Las Vegas Insitute for Advanced Dental Studies , the Center for Esthetic Excellence in Chicago, ILL., the Eubank Teaching Center in Plano, TX and the L. D. Pankey Institue in Miami, Fl.  Dr Alterman  continues to advance his education at many of the above learning centers and numerous others as available.

Dr. Alterman is an active member of the American Dental Association. the Academy of General Dentistry and especially the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry where he is a participating member .  Dr Alterman was recently elected and appointed as a member of the South Carolina State Board of Dentistry.  He represents the South Carolina First Congressional District on the board which regulates and oversees dentists throughout the state.

Dr. Alterman has been in private practice since 1988 and continues to attempt to mentor others interested in choosing dentistry as a carrer path.  He is an adjunct faculty member at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine and often has college students in the office so they can become exposed to modern dentistry.
